Isn’t what Anders Languages calls a ‘residential language course’ the same thing as what others call ‘learn French, German or Dutch at your teachers home’ or ‘home tutorial’?

ANSWER: No. Home tutorial is close to the concept of our residential courses, yet there are many differences… We don’t want to express an opinion about what’s best. It’s just different! Anders Languages focuses on teaching a language and the culture it represents in a short period of time by applying a personalized approach, while not interfering into your private live. It also offers you comfortable facilities, perfect for relaxing or enjoying your free weekend. Home tutorial is another approach by which you learn a language by literally stepping into the daily life of a local family and sharing with them. A great way to learn a language, but it requires flexibility and an effort to adapt yourself to other, sometimes lower, living standards. There are more structural differences, too.

- THE TOTAL IMMERSION EXPERIENCE. The ‘home tutorial’ experience is less intensive than a residential course. It is common sense that no teacher can attend professionally to a student all day long without sometimes losing his/her patience. That’s why you will have different teachers at Anders Languages. This will guarantee you full attention and concentration from your teacher, and allow you to focus on different topics, while enriching your language and cultural knowledge.

- INTERCHANGE WITH OTHER STUDENTS AND TEACHERS. An important part of a total immersion experience is the interchange with fellow students and teachers, where you can share experiences and learn more about each other’s cultures. Generally, a teacher offering ‘home tutorial’ receives only one student in his/her home, making it difficult for students to meet other people. At Anders Languages, you will have your very own private teacher, but you will also have the opportunity to easily meet other people at the residence, other students attending the residence, their teachers and, of course, your hosts, the owners of the Anders Languages.

- ACCOMMODATIONS AND INFRASTRUCTURE. A relaxing and comfortable environment, free of worries, along with advanced learning materials (video, DVD, audio, computer) are essential tools to guarantee you short term results. The Anders Languages residence has been designed to provide students the perfect study environment, setting a balance between study and relaxing. Home tutorial can’t offer this, mainly due to the costs involved.

Nice facilities, a proven learning methodology, one-on-one classes and highly trained teachers… All this sounds quite expensive!

ANSWER: Definitely not! A course at Anders Languages is certainly not expensive when you consider what you will get in return. It’s true that when you compare prices on a “one week” basis, Anders Languages appears to be more expensive. Certainly, if you compare it with group programs offered worldwide at other schools. Nevertheless, if you compare the cost of a residential course based on a “what will I learn in one week?” basis, you will find our prices are very competitive! In order to progress ONE level, a one week stay at Anders Languages is enough. In order to progress similarly at another ‘total immersion’ school, you will have to spend between three and six weeks. Add it all up (don’t forget to include the cost of accommodation and course materials) for a 3 to 6 week course in a traditional school, and you will see it would be difficult to beat the price of the residential course at Anders Languages.
